The Central Public Schools NHS Induction Ceremony was held on Sunday, May 16. NHS is an élite program students must be invited to apply for. Once the student applications have been submitted to the NHS advisor, the faculty council reviews the applications, and votes on the most qualified students to join. *Only a handful of students are actually selected to be inducted into NHS.
Requirements for National Honor Society Membership:
The requirements in the National Honor Society include the following: (The students must submit the application showing the 4 pillars of NHS: Scholarship, Leadership, Character, and Service.)
- Students need to have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher
- Students must not have any minors or infractions of the MN State High
- School League rules or Central High School's rules
- Students need to have recommendations (school and community members)
- Students need to fill out the application provided for them
- Students need to write an essay on the chosen topic
- Students need to show participation in school activities
- Students need to prove themselves to be a leader and a role model
- Students need to receive three out of five votes from the faculty council
Once inducted students must:
- Maintain at least a 3.5 grade point average
- Continue to be a role model and leader
- Attend bi-monthly meetings (the first and third Fridays of each month)
- Must be in charge of two Leadership projects each year
- Be involved with all activities Help to fundraise when needed
- Pay Dues when needed Turn in all forms on time
- Perform 40 individual community service hours each year
