PAX

Central Public Schools is proud to partner with PAX ( Program of Academic Exchange) to bring exchange students to Central High School.

Founded in 1990, PAX - Program of Academic Exchange is a not-for-profit educational organization and one of a select few U.S. Department of State-designated Exchange Visitor Programs chosen to participate in the prestigious U.S. Government-sponsored Future Leaders Exchange (FLEX) and Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) programs. PAX provides global education and exchange opportunities for students, host families, schools, and communities to open doors, embrace cultures, and become family.

Exchange students arrive about two weeks prior to school starting and depart about two weeks after school ends. Students have their own spending money and health insurance. They pay all school sports and activity fees. They attend in your district. The host family provides a home, family, and three meals. The application process is all done online and followed by a home visit with your coordinator. Your coordinator be there throughout the year as support and will check in on a regular basis.

Because our exchange students are minors and need protection, the U.S. Department of State requires host families to complete an application with certain standardized questions and submit a criminal background check for each family member over 18 years of age, as well as those who will turn 18 years old during the exchange year. This includes children who are away at college but come home during school vacation periods, as well as any other family members who live in the home part-time. If you have a home business with employees who work in or have access to the home, they too will need to submit CBCs.
